What’s New in Version 3.2.1

Muting and unmuting staves

In Mus2, it is possible to create multiple staves for a piece and to select a separate instrument for each stave. For example, a file with two staves can be created, one for the melody and one for the rhythm.

In this piece, we selected qanun for the melody and bendir for the rhythm staves. In a training session, you may want to turn the sound off for one of these staves. With this new version, it is possible to play only the melody or only the rhythm.

“Quiet” checkbox on Staff screen

“Quiet” checkbox is added to the Staff screen. After selecting a stave and clicking the checkbox, this instrument will no longer be played. In this example, bendir is muted. Thus, it will be possible to work by muting the instrument in one or many staves.

Maqam and Usul fields on the Score Info screen

The ARCHIVE feature was introduced to Mus2 with version 3.1.1. Yet, there were no separate fields to enter the maqam and usul information for the score. Two fields are added to “Score Info” screen.

These fields can now be used to access the pieces in the archive. These two fields in the score information can also be used for fold music pieces. The user can determine the content of the fields individually. For instance, you can write topic information (lullaby, nature, love, etc.) in the Maqam field, and melody type (divan, hoyrat, bozlak, etc.) in the Usul field. Then, it will be possible to easily reach the desired type of pieces by filtering from these fields.

If the user created the archive file in the previous version, the database will need to be updated due to the two new fields added.

After selecting “Ok”, the “Update archive database” button on the bottom right of the screen should be clicked.

Two fields in the database will be refreshed in a short while depending on the number of files in the archive. To see these fields, the “All Columns” checkbox in the upper right corner must be checked and go to the end of the table headings.

If desired, these columns can be dragged to the left side, to a more convenient location. When you reorder of columns, your changes will be kept as long as the program is running. When Mus2 is restarted, they will reset.

By using the checkboxes in the Page Layout tab of the Layout screen, It is possible to show the Maqam and Usul fields on the Score. If all the fields you want to display do not fit in the Title area, you can adjust the Height setting.

Bug fixes

To open a file you do not need to first run Mus2 and then select the file from the Open menu. When a file created with Mus2 is double-clicked, first the program will run and then the file will be opened. When the second method was tried on MAC computers, a blank Mus2 page was opened instead of the requested file. The problem has been fixed with this version.
